Galuvao wants to lure Ross to Souths
Another major signing for South Sydney is on the cards if Kiwi backrower Joe Galuvao has his way.
Just hours after signing a three-year deal reportedly worth $1 million, Galuvao said he would "get in the ear" of Penrith teammate Ben Ross in a bid to lure the Queensland prop to South Sydney.
The 180cm, 105kg Galuvao was contracted with Penrith until the end of 2006 but was released along with Queensland forward Ben Ross due to salary cap restraints.
"I'd love to see him at Souths but his manager will do what's best for Benny - I might have a quiet chat and get in his ear tomorrow, maybe twist his arm," Galuvao said.
Ross is considering offers from Souths, Melbourne and Cronulla and will make a decision by Sunday.
Galuvao's signature was welcome news for the cashed-up Rabbitohs after Bulldogs pivot Braith Anasta and Souths skipper Ashley Harrison ignored lucrative offers this week to link with the Sydney Roosters.
The Kiwi international hoped his signing would be a "bargaining chip" for Souths as they continue their hunt for off-contract stars Ross and Melbourne No.7 Matt Orford.
"I'm a Souths man now so anything I can do for the club will obviously be a bonus for them," he said.
"From the club's perspective they (Souths) would love to get those guys who are still on the market so hopefully I can be a good bargaining chip for them."
Galuvao, 27, is seen as an ideal replacement for Souths backrower Bryan Fletcher who will play for English Super League club Wigan next season.
