Port Adelaide axe six from senior list
Port Adelaide have taken the axe to their senior list, cutting six players ahead of the AFL national draft.
The club said Greg Bentley, Adam Cockshell, Fabian Deluca, Nathan Lonie, Damon White and Ryan Williams would not be offered new contracts.
Daniel Boyle, Gavin Grose and Ryan Willits were also cut from the Power's rookie list in a major clean-out for the club.
Football operations manager Peter Rohde said Port Adelaide viewed the upcoming draft as a major opportunity for the club to bring in some young talent.
"This is one of the hardest times of the football year but we also understand the opportunity exists to take advantage of what is considered by many to be one of the deepest drafts of recent times," Rohde said.
"Our national recruiting manager Blair Hartley has been working very hard to identify the best talent and we see this as a real opportunity to inject even more quality youth into an already young and developing squad."
Rohde thanked each of the players cut, making special mention of White, 25, who played 55 games for the Power after battling serious injuries early in his career.
"Damon's persistence in the face of adversity was admired by all within the football club," he said.
Port Adelaide has now made nine changes to its senior squad with Michael Wilson and Hugh Minson retiring and Adam Thomson traded to Richmond.
