Port to pick senior coach this season
Port Adelaide expect to pick their next senior coach by the end of the current AFL season.
The club on Wednesday released the timetable for replacing Mark Williams who quit this month after a record run of losses for the Power.
The Power said they had appointed a panel of six to oversee the first stages of the search for the person who will lead the club next season.
It includes two senior club executives, two Port Adelaide board members and two external appointees and will be chaired by chief executive Mark Haysman.
"We approach the selection process with an open mind but with the single-minded goal of finding the best possible coach for the next era of the Port Adelaide Football Club," Haysman said in a statement.
"That person will have an extraordinary opportunity to take and shape what we believe is an exciting list of talented young players.
"The selection panel we have established provides a range of football expertise as well as business experience and the process will be demanding and thorough."
Candidates for the job will go through a series of assessment exercises and interviews with the club expecting the process to be completed by grand final week.
That will give the new coach the opportunity to be involved in the draft camp and trade week.
Haysman said the club did not intend to provide a running commentary on the identity or merits of any candidates.
However, caretaker coach and former star ruckman Matthew Primus has already indicated he would like the job.
