Port make Garry Hocking senior assistant
AFL club Port Adelaide have promoted Garry Hocking to senior assistant coach and added Daniel Healy and ex-Swan Matthew Nicks to their development coaching staff.
Hocking was Port's development coach in 2010.
The four-time Geelong best and fairest joins fellow assistant Jason Cripps and new senior coach Matthew Primus on the panel.
Primus says Hocking was outstanding in his role as development coach and richly deserves his opportunity as an assistant coach.
Primus says Hocking's positive attitude was great for the younger players on the list in his role as development coach.
"And given that we're still a very young, developing team we see his role as an assistant coach a perfect fit as he has already developed great relationships with our core group of younger players," Primus said on Friday.
"We all know what Garry achieved as a player and his knowledge of the game is second to none so we're delighted to have him on board in a senior role."
Former onballer Hocking could be given the role of midfield coach.
Dean Laidley, who was an assistant to senior coach Mark Williams at Port this year, has left the club and returned to Melbourne.
The Power hope to announce the appointment of another assistant coach next week.
Healy returns for a second stint at Port as development manager after two years as senior coach of SANFL club North Adelaide.
