Wing, Minichiello edge NSW squad
Sydney Roosters pair Craig Wing and Anthony Minichiello are expected to cap off a successful 24 hours when they are named in NSW's preliminary State of Origin squad on Monday morning.
Wing and Minichiello are certain to be selected in a 33-man Blues squad - putting them on track to make their Origin debuts - after starring in the Roosters' 40-20 win over Cronulla at Toyota Park on Sunday.
Wing was named man of the match while Minichiello capped a fine display with a 70m runaway try as the Roosters bounced back from last weekend's loss to Penrith to leave the Sharks winless after four rounds.
"I'm optimistic but I had a slow start to the season because I didn't run ...until the first game," Wing said.
"I lost a bit of my fitness but it's coming back game by game."
The Roosters pair will be joined in the squad by teammates Craig Fitzgibbon and Luke Ricketson, while David Peachey and Jason Stevens are likely to be the only Sharks to come under consideration.
However, Peachey's injury curse could once again cost him a shot at Origin, with the Sharks fullback suffering a hamstring injury which forced him to play the entire second half on the wing.
In Sunday's other results, the New Zealand Warriors won their third successive game with a 38-16 victory over South Sydney in Auckland.
Angry Rabbitohs coach Paul Langmack refused to blame off-field distractions for his team's weak performance, their fourth straight defeat this season.
The loss left Souths at the foot of the table, one of only three winless sides in the competition along with the Sharks and Manly.
