Tigers end Wildcats' season
The Melbourne Tigers survived a determined effort from the Perth Wildcats to run out 108-88 winners in Thursday night's NBL elimination final.
The Tigers' victory at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne also signalled the end of Perth point guard Ricky Grace's stellar career.
Grace, a veteran of 16 NBL seasons, announced last week that this would be his final year.
Melbourne outscored Perth 40-25 in the final quarter to blow out what until then had been an even contest.
Tigers guard Lanard Copeland was the catalyst for the 20-point victory, scoring 12 points in the last period.
Copeland had previously endured a poor night, scoring only two points in the opening three quarters.
Melbourne captain Andrew Gaze led his team with 23 points and Mark Bradtke had 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Perth forward Tony Ronaldson had a game-high 27 points and Rosell Ellis contributed 16 points and 10 boards.
Melbourne coach Lindsay Gaze was relieved to get away with the win.
"It was always going to be a tough game," Gaze said.
