Tigers farewell cricketing dry spell
Tasmania's cricketing dry spell was well and truly broken with the cold beer flowing to welcome home the triumphant Tigers.
ING Cup in hand after their first domestic one-day championship in 26 years, the Tigers continued their celebrations in their home city after a Brisbane party that lasted into the wee hours for most team members.
With a voice croaky from victory tunes, coach Brian McFadyen said it had been awesome to see his team beat Queensland on their home turf on Sunday.
"I've never sang that much in my life in one night," he said.
The Tasmanian flag was raised over the Gabba, thanks to a friendly wager between premiers Peter Beattie and Paul Lennon, but the players made their presence felt on Sunday night.
"We stayed in the rooms till about 10 ... just a fantastic moment that you can never replace when you have that time together as a team," McFadyen said.
While McFadyen has always believed Tasmania had a winning one-day team, he said the championship would push his players to further excel.
"It's something that they'll want to continue to repeat. It's a good driving force and a good motivator for the long, cold pre-season training sessions outside in winter," he said.
"There's nothing like a winning culture and there's nothing like when you've actually won a competition and experienced it. That's when you can really start to talk about successful eras and successful cultures."
Captain Dan Marsh said the win would provide the momentum the team had lacked.
