AFL's Aurora offer measly: Kennett
Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett has accused the AFL of short-changing Tasmania, by not providing more cash to fund the Aurora Stadium upgrade.
Kennett described as "measly" the AFL's conditional contribution of $250,000 towards the redevelopment of Launceston's AFL ground, which would cost about $7 million in total.
Kennett told a function on Sunday, before the Hawks took on North Melbourne, that he would seek a meeting with league officials to tell them their offer was not enough.
"I will next week talk to the AFL and make inference to them that I think that what they've offered to date is unrealistic and measly," he said.
"I don't think it should be tied to any conditions and I think they owe it to Tasmania, particularly if there isn't going to be a Tasmanian (AFL) team in the foreseeable future."
Hawthorn regard themselves as Tasmania's preferred team in the AFL as they play games in Launceston and have a sponsorship deal with the Tasmanian government.
But Kennett said regardless of the deal, the AFL owed Tasmania because of the contribution the state had made to the game.
