Bullets overcome Kings in Brisbane
Brisbane halted its early season slide in emphatic fashion with a 111-105 win over the Sydney Kings at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
Brisbane turned around a 21 point loss to the Kings six days ago in Sydney to beat the back-to-back NBL champions by six points and end a four-game losing streak.
But the victory came at a price with star American forward Kevin Freeman suffering a groin injury midway through the second quarter.
Freeman was contesting a rebound when he crashed heavily, losing his footing and doing the full splits.
He will miss Sunday's clash with Townsville in Townsville and will have his injury assessed but seems headed for a few weeks on the sidelines.
Despite their hefty 24-point half time lead Brisbane was only too well aware of their semifinal loss to the Kings last season when they led them by 25 points at half time.
And the Kings came back with some help from the referees who seemed to look at the lopsided scoreboard and make some sympathy calls in the final quarter.
"It was a flattering result in the end," said Kings coach Brian Goorjian.
Sydney stormed home from 21 points down to beat Melbourne in the biggest final quarter comeback in League history but Goorjian never thought it was on the cards until they closed to within four points with a few minutes left to play.
"I don't know how I would have felt had we won that," said Goorjian, adding Brisbane had turned things around in the space of week.
