Flatley puts up hand with 33-point haul
Elton Flatley says he's ready for Bledisloe Cup duty if required by bagging 33 points and piloting his Brisbane club side to a 99-point thumping.
Flatley scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked nine goals from 12 attempts as the Brothers smashed last-placed Sunshine Coast 104-5 at Brisbane's Crosby Park.
It was a more than impressive return to rugby considering it was only the versatile inside back's second match in three months after an injury-riddled season.
Test coach Eddie Jones will be keen to get his hands on a tape of his display as he weighs up whether to slot Flatley back into the Wallabies line-up for next Saturday's match against New Zealand in Sydney.
Matt Giteau is favoured to move from inside centre to five-eighth against the All Blacks in the absence of the injured Stephen Larkham due to Flatley's lack of match practice.
But the Queenslander, who can play either No.10 or 12 like Giteau, could do no more than he did.
He notched his hat-trick in emphatic fashion by bouncing off a high shot from a rival prop before running 30m to cross in the 46th minute.
Flatley's three tries came up in a hot 20-minute period either side of half-time.
Playing the bulk of the match at five-eighth, his first touch was a sign of things to come - putting his outside centre into space with a perfect cut-out pass.
Wingers Andrew Pyers and Anthony Sauer feasted off his service and Brothers domination by scoring four tries each.
