John Kosmina has warned Sydney FC's amazing A-League victory against Central Coast will count for nothing if they can't beat his former club Adelaide on Friday.

Sydney were still celebrating on Sunday their miracle 5-4 win over the league-leading Mariners on Saturday night - the highest-scoring and most dramatic, if not greatest, game in the A-League's short three-year history.

The victory catapulted Kosmina's men into the top four for the first time this season at the expense of the club he took to last season's grand final.

But with little time to prepare for the clash with the Reds at Adelaide Oval, Kosmina is determined to get his players' minds back on the job as quickly as possible.

"We've got a little bit of a holiday for Christmas, but we need to switch on again next week because if we don't take what we did (Saturday) onto the park next week, then it's all for nought, isn't it," said Kosmina.

The match will be Kosmina's first in Adelaide since taking the reins at Sydney mid-season.

Against the Mariners in Gosford, an injury-depleted Sydney fought back from 2-0 down in the opening 15 minutes to snatch victory from the final kick of the game.

Ufuk Talay scored the winner form the penalty spot, with Sydney claiming their second last-gasp win of the season after defeating Newcastle 1-0 two weeks ago with another injury-time goal.

"Sometimes games like that, like it was against Newcastle the other week, you win them at the death and it helps build a little bit of extra character that you need to go on with it," Kosmina said.

"We really played as a team, it was great.

"It was a fantastic game of football, no matter which way you look at it, it was an unbelievable game of football.

"You get nine goals, you get a record crowd at the ground here and the quality of the football was superb.

"It was an unbelievable game to be a part of."

The win maintains Sydney's unbeaten record away from home this season, a run that stretches to seven games, equalling an A-League record.
