Mariners keen to get on an A-League wave
The Central Coast Mariners will be looking to continue the promising A-League form which saw them blow past champion Sydney 3-1 last week when they host Perth Glory on Friday night.
The mid-table clash could be the last for veteran Mariners striker Damian Mori, 36, although the club is trying to extend his four-match stint for another month.
Mori, the highest scorer in Socceroos history, has shone in his short-term stay with the club, netting three times in as many appearances.
Fellow Mariners old-timer Stewart Petrie, 36, has also been in fine form on the left-wing, setting up five goals in three games, and will be a man to watch when the sides do battle at Central Coast Stadium.
"Our older guys have been in great touch and Tony Vidmar is getting fitter and fitter and really starting to hit his straps as well," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.
"We played really well last week and to be honest we haven't been far off that for a while now. We've got a wee bit of improvement in us but the boys were good last week."
Perth sits two points clear of its opponents in fifth, but is coming off a 2-1 loss to Queensland Roar.
Perth's 34-year-old striker Stuart Young is yet another elder statesman in good touch, scoring five times this season including one inside the first minute of last weekend's loss in Perth.
It was the Glory's fifth home game out of seven this season and the club now faces four weeks on the road, including trips to heavyweights Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.
Central Coast and the Glory last met in round two in Perth and it was the home side who came out victors 2-0.
Central Coast welcome Vuko Tomasevic and Mile Jedinak to the squad, while Perth will introduce new short-term signing Paul Pezos, a former NSL player with West Adelaide.
