Soliman retains middleweight title
World rated middleweight Sam Soliman scored his first stoppage victory in more than three years over Argentinian Silvio Rojas at Panthers on Friday night.
Soliman retained his International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight title by being too slick and strong for an opponent who lived up to his reputation for being a colourful character.
Rojas constantly mugged to Soliman and the crowd but his unorthodox measures didn't distract Soliman who dropped him in the fourth round.
The Argentinian's corner promptly threw in the towel.
Soliman improved his record to 22 wins and seven losses and recorded only his fifth stoppage victory and his first in 15 bouts.
Earlier, tough Sydney fighter Jason De Lisle retained his International Boxing Federation light heavyweight title and top prospect Michael Katsidis was another early winner of the star studded boxing card.
A cut eye forced De Lisle's challenger, Queensland Jamie Guy to retire in the fourth round of a willing contest.
De Lisle was ahead on two judges' card and behind on the other when fight doctor Alex Lewis ruled Guy couldn't continue.
The champion did the majority of the scoring, tagging the Queenslander with plenty of right-hand punches, but the challenger also landed several blows.
De Lisle improved his record to 13 wins, two losses and two draws while Guy's log dropped to five victories, five defeats and a draw.
