Akuila Uate free to play for NSW
Akuila Uate is free to face Queensland after the NSW and Newcastle winger took the early guilty plea having been charged with a dangerous throw by the NRL's match review committee.
Uate looked set to be rubbed out of next week's State of Origin II in Sydney after putting his hands through the legs of Wests Tigers centre Tim Simona and throwing him on his shoulder in Monday's clash at Leichhardt Oval.
However, the NRL match review committee ruled the tackle to be only a grade one offence and Uate took 93 points with the early plea, making him available for his second appearance in a Blues shirt.
Committee chairman Greg McCallum said a grade one charge was appropriate.
"Although player Uate lifted player Simona into a dangerous position, Simona was able to get his arm to the ground and in some manner protect himself," McCallum said in a statement.
"It is his shoulder that makes most contact with the ground and there is only minor contact with the back of his head."
