Agen bolster squad for next season
Top 14 survivors Agen have announced the signings of three new players for next term, including New Zealand prop John Schwalger and Australian lock Pat O'Connor.
Agen, who until recently were embroiled in a relegation catfight, also announced the signing of Montpellier backrow forward Marc Giraud and that they were talking to four other unnamed players, including two current internationals who will join after this year's World Cup.
Agen also rewarded two of their mid-season signings with extended contracts.
Ivory Coast fullback Silvere Tian, a mid-February signing from Bourgoin, penned a two year deal with the option of an extra season while 30-year-old South African lock Dewald Senekal, who arrived at the beginning of February from Toulon, signed a one year contract with the option of extending it by a year.
Schwalger, capped once by the All Blacks, will join after the 27-year-old's Super Rugby campaign ends with the Hurricanes while 26-year-old O'Connor, a former player with the Western Force, will do the same after the Waratahs interest in the competition ends.
Agen have won the national championship eight times although their last crown goes back to 1988.
