Hurricanes recall Smith, Vito ruled out
All Blacks centre Conrad Smith returns to the Hurricanes' starting lineup but star flanker Victor Vito will miss out as they chase a Super 14 rugby semi-final spot against the NSW Waratahs in Sydney on Friday.
Smith was ruled out of the Hurricanes' 44-21 victory over the Reds due to concussion, but was restored to the No.13 jersey in place of Jason Kawau, who was bracketed with Willie Ripia on the bench.
Vito failed a fitness test on his calf muscle strain, meaning Michael Paterson will wear the No.6 jersey for a second consecutive week.
In the other change to the starting lineup, loosehead prop John Schwalger returns in place of Jacob Ellison who drops to the bench.
Victory over the Waratahs will book the Hurricanes a semifinal spot as they chase a fifth straight victory.
Hurricanes: Cory Jane, Tamati Ellison, Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Hosea Gear, Aaron Cruden, Piri Weepu, Rodney So'oialo, Karl Lowe, Michael Paterson, Jeremy Thrush, Bryn Evans, Neemia Tialata, Andrew Hore (captain), John Schwalger. Reserves: Dane Coles, Jacob Ellison, Nick Crosswell, Scott Waldrom, Tyson Keats, Jason Kawau/Willie Ripia, David Smith.
