Western Force re-sign Hockings for 2009
Western Force have continued their Super 14 signing spree by securing lock Tom Hockings for another season.
Hockings has signed on for 2009 with an option for 2010, joining teen sensation James O'Connor, flanker David Pocock, prop Pek Cowan, lock Pat O'Connor and winger Caleb Brown as others to have put pen to paper in the past month.
Hockings, 22, made his Super debut last February against the Sharks in Durban when captain Nathan Sharpe went down with food poisoning on the eve of the season.
Hockings went on to earn 10 caps for the season before shoulder nerve damage prematurely ended his campaign.
It also dashed his chances of a call-up to the national side this season.
The 110kg lock was forced to undergo shoulder surgery last month, ruling him out of the Force's upcoming five-week tour of the UK.
"I didn't expect to start 10 games this season with the calibre of players we have at the lock position, but I made the most of my opportunities and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing Super 14," Hockings said.
RugbyWA general manager rugby Mitch Hardy described Hockings as "one of the major finds of the competition" and predicted it was only a matter of time before the Queenslander earned representative honours.
"Unfortunately Tom suffered a shoulder injury which put him out of contention for rep footy this season but had he been available for selection I'm sure he would have been there or thereabouts," Hardy said.
"No doubt he's one the selectors will be keeping a close eye on over the next 12 months."
