AFL gives Port Adelaide $1m grant
The AFL has provided Port Adelaide with a $1 million grant to help ease the Power's financial plight.
The AFL Commission approved the cash injection at its monthly meeting on Monday.
The funding will help ease the strain on Port, who have recorded a reported debt of more than $5 million.
The grant follows comes on top of $3.5 million invested in the club by the South Australian National Football League, Port's licence holder, last December.
Port Adelaide chief executive Mark Haysman said he was delighted with the grant, which would be used to help Port reduce their debt on their training facilities.
The funding is a welcome relief for Port Adelaide, whose 93-point defeat to the Western Bulldogs last Saturday night knocked them out of the eight.
The club is now likely to focus on the future of coach Mark Williams, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
