Bateman, Grant to challenge AFL charges
Hawthorn midfielder Chance Bateman and young Western Bulldogs forward Jarrad Grant will both challenge charges at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
Bateman - who had only just returned to the Hawks' lineup after serving a three-match suspension - was reported for kneeing Port Adelaide youngster Daniel Stewart on Sunday.
Bateman's existing poor record meant he could not have the level one charge downgraded with an early guilty plea.
He will miss Saturday's clash with Adelaide in Launceston if his challenge is unsuccessful.
Grant risks a two-game suspension after being charged with striking Collingwood's Ben Reid on Sunday.
Grant could have accepted a one-match sanction with an early guilty plea to the level three offence.
Geelong duo Corey Enright and James Podsiadly have accepted reprimands after pleading guilty to rough conduct and striking charges respectively from Sunday's clash with West Coast.
Brisbane spearhead Brendan Fevola and St Kilda midfielder Lenny Hayes have also accepted reprimands for striking charges.
And Brisbane midfielder Simon Black has been fined $1950 for using abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language towards an umpire after the final siren of Saturday's narrow loss to North Melbourne.
