Rioli hit with one-match ban
Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli faces a one-match ban after being charged with striking by the AFL match review panel.
Rioli earned the panel's ire for an incident involving Melbourne's Nathan Jones in Hawthorn's 45-point belting of the Demons at the MCG on Sunday.
He is unable to reduce the one-match ban with an early guilty plea because of his previous disciplinary record.
Rioli has been brilliant for Hawthorn in their opening two matches, and was close to best on ground in the win over Melbourne.
If he is outed, he would miss the Hawks' clash with Richmond on Saturday night.
But he would return for their clash with West Coast in Launceston the following week.
Richmond's Luke McGuane has been hit with a three-match ban for rough conduct, but could drop it to two games with an early guilty plea.
McGuane was charged over his high hit on St Kilda's Farren Ray during the drawn match at the MCG last Friday night.
Sydney midfielder Kieren Jack has been fined $1800 for making negligent contact with an umpire.
Brisbane midfielder James Polkinghorne has escaped with a reprimand for striking Western Bulldogs onballer Callan Ward, while Bulldogs forward Daniel Giansiracusa and Brisbane's Jed Adcock were fined for wrestling.
All players have until lunchtime Tuesday to decide whether to accept the match review panel's findings or fight the penalty at the tribunal.
