Furner wary of Titans in Canberra
With so many factors seemingly in Canberra's favour heading into Sunday's NRL clash with the Gold Coast, coach David Furner would be entitled to be confident of a win.
For a start, the Titans have never won a match in the nation's capital and the Raiders have every reason to feel confident after their recent triumph against ladder leaders St George Illawarra.
But Furner knows victories at Canberra Stadium, which used to be his team's bread-and-butter, haven't been as easy to come by this season and is also wary with his side coming off a second bye within a month.
"With the Gold Coast, I know they've made a point of winning at away games where they haven't won before - they won a very good game against Manly (and) Newcastle," Furner said on Saturday.
"We had a really good win against the Warriors and then we had a bye (and lost to Melbourne), so it's not only trying to have the same team on the park week in week out, it's also getting that momentum.
"Sometimes the byes can stop that, but we've trained really hard in the break."
Furner plans to field a similar side to the one that defeated the Dragons, hoping to find the consistency the Titans have shown this season.
"They're a very good side, they've been pretty consistent in fielding the same ... so their combinations are very crisp," Furner said.
"For us, it's about our performance, individually and as a team.
"We are playing at home and it is going to be a big focus - winning that game."
Canberra trained at game-day intensity on both Monday and Tuesday, with an intense physical session on Thursday, and Furner is tipping a defensively-aggressive clash.
He desperately wants the two points, but knows they are never in the bag.
"I don't think anything's guaranteed - none of the games," he said.
