Raiders rest Dugan for Storm trial
Canberra coach David Furner has rested star Josh Dugan from Saturday's NRL trial clash with Melbourne.
Fullback Dugan was in electrifying form for the NRL All Stars in their win over the Indigenous All Stars on the Gold Coast last Saturday, scoring a 40-metre try on his way to picking up the Preston Campbell Medal.
Furner said he omitted the 20-year-old Origin hopeful from his 28-man squad for the match in Bega on the NSW south coast to give some fringe players the chance to impress.
"There's the chance there for some of the younger guys like Sam Williams and Haydon Hodge to step up and play at this level which is exciting for them and the club," Furner said.
The Raiders will also be without skipper Alan Tongue (ribs), new signings Blake Ferguson (finger) and Matt Orford (knee) as well as Joel Thompson (ribs).
However, ex-Storm prop Brett White will play against his former teammates in his first game for the club, lining up alongside Queensland front-rower David Shillington.
