Williams stakes Port's claim for Darwin
Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams says the AFL's possibilities in Darwin are endless as his club stakes their claim in the northern frontier.
The Power faces Melbourne in Darwin on Saturday night in a fixture Williams says is important for his club off-field as well as on the ground.
Port is playing two games a season in Darwin, with Saturday night's match a nominal home game for Melbourne.
But Williams also wants to use the encounter to spruik the appeal of his club to Territorians.
"It's important for us ... we continually look to grow our supporter base both here in South Australia and certainly through the central corridor of Australia," Williams said on Friday at Adelaide Airport.
The Power coach backed a call by Demons coach Dean Bailey to schedule the match during the AFL's split midseason round so the clubs could further promote their causes in Darwin.
"If you have it around the split round, you could put some more time into events up there," Williams said.
"You can never spend enough time up there, the possibilities are endless I think if you get into the right areas and really attach yourself there.
"I think (Greater) Western Sydney are going to have that as a recruiting area and they'll be well served by going up there and finding some great players, because I am sure there is lots of them up there, you just need to spend some time."
Eighth-placed Port have named an unchanged side to front the 11th placed Demons, who have made five changes to their side defeated by West Coast last weekend.
Melbourne's inclusions feature forwards Brad Miller, Austin Wonaemerri and Cale Morton while Cameron Bruce (hamstring), Matthew Bate (ankle) and Matthew Warnock (soreness) will all miss the game from injuries sustained last round.
"Some of the players they have brought back in are really good players ...their best form is as good as any team going around in the competition," Williams said of Melbourne.
