Mark Williams prepared to take pay cut
Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams is prepared to take a pay cut as a result of the AFL club's tough financial situation.
The Power are seeking financial relief from the AFL and SANFL and Williams says constant talk about the issue is distracting his team.
Williams is among seven senior coaches out of contract this year and is more likely to stay, despite speculation linking him to Collingwood.
He said on Melbourne radio station Triple M on Sunday that he would consider a pay cut if the Power asked him.
"I would think so," he said.
"I understand the problems and you have to be part of the solution."
The Power dominated Saturday night's Showdown against Adelaide for a 4-2 record, but Williams said the focus on the club's financial plight was having an affect on the team.
"There was a huge backlash to our club last week and there was a lot of anxiety going through the group," he said.
"There were two or three pages every day on the finances of the club and trying to negotiate better deals with the AFL, the SANFL, (AAMI Stadium) and Adelaide Oval.
"All of those things are in the mixture, we can't walk away from it and it's there in everyone's face every day."
Asked if it was distracting his players, Williams replied: "there's no doubt, it's too often in the press and too often asked and talked about.
"It builds up, the responsibility of every game is so huge, sometimes it gets a little overwhelming."
