Motlop suspension right, says Port coach
Port Adelaide's internal suspension of mercurial forward Daniel Motlop wasn't a tough decision, Power coach Mark Williams says.
Motlop was banned by Port for one game for picking his girlfriend up at Darwin airport at 2am on the day of their match against Melbourne last Saturday.
Williams said the suspension "wasn't a tough call, it was the right thing to do".
"When I became aware of what had happened, I spoke to Daniel for a fair time in regard to preparation for the game," Williams said on Friday.
"And we also talked about his values in regard to family and being responsible for other people, it was an interchange of those discussions.
"But to me, the preparation before a game is pretty sacrosanct, you have to get enough sleep to play well.
"I know it's a long time ago but my dear old Dad used to say any hours before midnight after worth twice after midnight."
Motlop's indiscretion had disappointed his teammates, Williams said.
"He has a great attitude, he's a great bloke," he said.
"He has a lot of things going on in his life that most people aren't aware of so we take it all into consideration."
Motlop will miss Port's home game against Richmond on Saturday.
