Season over for Wallace with ankle break
Brisbane halfback Peter Wallace's season is over after X-rays confirmed his left ankle is broken.
A devastated Wallace told AAP on Sunday he was not sure what the Broncos would do to replace him for next Saturday night's preliminary final clash with Melbourne, with the winner advancing to the grand final.
"It's broken," Wallace told AAP, his voice wracked with emotion.
"I knew it wasn't good, I heard a crack.
"I don't know what (coach) Ivan (Henjak) will do, maybe move Locky (Darren Lockyer to halfback)."
Brisbane's other option would be to call up under-20s halfback Ben Hunt rather than disrupt the side.
"I'm not sure about Ben, he's had a handful of games, they might chance it," Wallace said.
Wallace broke his left ankle with just over five minutes of Saturday night's knockout semi-final left, when Brisbane were leading 24-10, the final score in the match.
"We were trying to put them away and not play negative football," said a distraught Wallace.
"I was almost through (a tackle) and I got tackled low and someone came over the top."
Wallace had been in outstanding form and his kicking game in the past few weeks had been the best in his career.
His defence in the ruck and steady hand had been a key factor in taking the pressure off Lockyer.
