Injured Broncos unwanted by punters
Sports bookmakers have been unable to sell an injury-hit Brisbane, with two agencies taking less than $1,000 on the Broncos on Monday.
TAB Sportsbet took $36,000 on the qualifying final showdown between Brisbane and Melbourne but only $641 of that went on the Broncos who have not revealed a replacement for halfback Peter Wallace.
Likewise Sportingbet Australia reported $20,000 in wagers on the Storm with $200 for Brisbane at $2.65 and easing.
Sportingbet Australia's chief executive Michael Sullivan tipped money would arrive for Brisbane once punters knew who would take over at halfback.
The Melbourne-Brisbane clash was clearly the one to catch punters attention.
TAB Sportsbet took close to $40,000 on the result while the Bulldogs-Parramatta clash attracted just $3,000.
Most bookmakers around the country are facing a grand final blackout with the four NRL teams left all being heavily backed during the season.
Parramatta were $101 to win and Brisbane $51 at one stage during the year.
The AFL grand final at the weekend between St Kilda and Geelong is a similar nightmare result no matter which club wins.
