Origin I criticism to fire up Wallace
NSW halfback Peter Wallace says he will use coach Craig Bellamy's criticism of his recent form as inspiration for next week's second State of Origin match in Sydney.
Bellamy suggested when naming the Blues squad on Monday night that Wallace was lucky to be picked after his disappointing Origin I performance.
Instead it was five-eighth Terry Campese who made way, with Cronulla skipper Trent Barrett earning an Origin recall after four years out of a Blue jersey.
And while Wallace admits his form has been down in recent weeks, the Brisbane playmaker says it's probably not as bad as many have suggested.
"(Bellamy's comments are) more inspiration than anything and I've got to try and make amends," Wallace told AAP.
"Since the Origin we've been towelled up in two games so it's pretty hard to play a starring role every week when you're getting beaten by 40 points.
"(My form's) definitely dropped off from the start of the year but I don't think I'm playing terrible, you know?"
Wallace hasn't been helped by a disrupted couple of weeks off the field.
He took a short break from club duties following the Broncos clash with Melbourne on June 5 and then spent most of last week in quarantine as the swine flu crisis hit the NRL.
And the 23-year-old said he was keen to get back on the training paddock as soon as possible.
"It feels like I haven't trained in ages but hopefully the (injured) boys get cleared pretty early in the week and we can set up as a team and start working on a few things," he said.
