Big V a highlight of my career: Fevola
Victorian match-winner Brendan Fevola says donning the famous Big V jumper is the highlight of his AFL career to date.
Fevola's stunning redemption continued apace as he kicked six goals in a best-afield performance in Victoria's 17-point win over the Dream Team.
A couple of months ago, Fevola was placed on his last warning at Carlton after yet another alcohol-fuelled misdemeanour.
That seemed just a distant memory.
"Just playing was a pretty special honour for me - it's probably the highlight of my career," said Fevola.
"I've had a few dark years at the footy club, I played in a prelim (final in 1999) in my second year of footy and I can't really remember that.
"But to be picked for your state, it doesn't get any better than that.
"I haven't played in a premiership, so hopefully I can say a premiership will be better further down the track.
"But that's right up there, it was pretty special."
Victorian coach Mark Thompson asked Fevola and his skipper and fellow key forward Jonathan Brown for an extra effort in the final quarter and they delivered.
"To play well in a big game is pretty important, but to play alongside the players you play with and against in that game was special," said Fevola.
"They make a full-forward's job pretty easy when you've got (Chris) Judd, (Jimmy) Bartel and (Sam) Mitchell kicking it down your throat.
"And the crowd out there was awesome.
"I think it was only 70,000 but it sounded like there was 100 (thousand) when the wave started going around."
