Two-time Coleman Medallist Brendan Fevola's bid to resurrect his AFL career hit another snag on Monday following a boozy night out.

Television networks showed footage of the former Carlton and Brisbane star appearing to vomit while surrounded by patrons at the Glenferrie Hotel in Melbourne.

The hotel's manager James Westley said Fevola "looked intoxicated" when he and about five friends arrived at the pub shortly after 7pm Sunday.

They left voluntarily but troublefollowed at a nearby restaurant with police called to an incident.

A group of teenagers reportedly recognised Fevola at the restaurant and began asking him for autographs.

"We can confirm we were called to a restaurant on Burwood Road, Hawthorn about 9.10pm, in relation to a verbal altercation between two parties," a police spokeswoman said.

"A 30-year-old man, believed to be from Brighton, was not involved in the altercation and actually removed himself from the area when the altercation occurred."

Fevola, who has battled gambling and alcohol problems, denied on Monday that he had been at fault.

"Story is not true. Had a good night with the boys people are best to not make (things) up," the 30-year-old said on Twitter.

"Just to set it straight I was NOT in a fight last night.

"Thanks for the support guys nothing wrong hopefully it's all nipped in the bud."

Fevola said last week that he was keen to nominate for the AFL draft but would also consider a new career as an NFL punter.

Fevola said in the Nine Network interview that he no longer gambled, although he still played a little bit of poker.

And he said he was now capable of stopping drinking after one or two drinks.

"Previously I wouldn't, I'd have one or two beers and that would be it, it would be an all-nighter," Fevola said.

Fevola said most people in the AFL were aware he was still capable of playing at the top level, but but his off-field "baggage" was the issue.

"I might not even get spoken to. If that happens, that's fair enough and you could understand why," Fevola said last week.

"But I think I've got a lot to offer."

Fevola's VFL season with Casey ended on a sour note with a one-match suspension for striking a Werribee player.
