Kings snap three-match losing run
The Sydney Kings have snapped a three-match national basketball league losing streak, beating last-placed Victoria Giants by seven points at Vodafone Arena.
The Kings won 98-91 but did it the hard way, finally shaking off a stubborn Giants outfit late in the final quarter.
Sydney led by 16 points late in the second quarter, but veteran Darryl McDonald single-handedly lifted the Giants back into the match with a game-high 29 points and nine rebounds.
The Giants fought back to three points down by the final change thanks to a McDonald three-point buzzer-beater from inside his own half.
But the Kings kept their noses in front all the way down the stretch, with Brad Sheridan making the difference with some outstanding rebounding, picking up eight of his 14 boards in the final term.
Forward Chris Williams top-scored for the Kings with 21, with fellow import Kavossy Franklin chipping in with 18.
The Kings now have a 10-5 win-loss record, while the Giants slump to 4-13 with their eighth straight loss.
