LaPaglia tries to give Butcher the chop
Sydney FC coach Terry Butcher has survived a push by Hollywood star and part owner Anthony LaPaglia to have him sacked.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that LaPaglia sort the support of the board to get rid of Butcher during a meeting on Friday.
But actor LaPaglia, a 7.5 per cent stakeholder in the A-League club, did not get the numbers needed to oust the former England international.
While in fourth spot on the A-League ladder, the inaugural champions have won just three games from nine so far this season, and endured a home defeat to Melbourne Victory on the weekend.
LaPaglia said: "There are some things which have happened at the club which I don't support but that's normal on a board when you have divergence viewpoints.
"There has been some level of upheaval over the past few months but that can sometimes be a good thing, so long as we are pulling in the right direction."
Butcher, was appointed as coach of Sydney FC this season, replacing Pierre Littbarski.
He has had to deal with the departures of marquee players Dwight Yorke and Benito Carbone as well as former chairman Walter Bugno - who headhunted Butcher in the first place.
