Yorke to miss a week with groin injury
Captain Dwight Yorke will miss Sydney FC's pre season cup clash against Perth at Wollongong Sunday after scans revealed a slight strain in his left groin muscle.
Yorke was due to play his first match since the World Cup against the Glory, and then travel to Japan for Trinidad & Tobago's friendly international on Wednesday, but will now miss both matches and set his sights on a return for the start of the A-League season in three weeks.
"I'm disappointed. I came back from the World Cup and worked very hard to get fit and I was really starting to feel sharp again," said the former Manchester United striker.
"I was looking forward to getting out on the pitch but this has set me back a little.
"I will now make sure I get things right because the start of the A-League is only three weeks away."
Yorke will visit a groin specialist this week as the Sydney FC medical staff wants to make sure there is no chance of further injury before he resumes training.
"From our point of view the results of the preliminary scan are positive but we want to make sure that it is right before he gets back into training," said Sydney FC coach Terry Butcher.
