Broncos return home as champions
Thousands of fans are expected to greet the Broncos when they arrive in Brisbane after securing the club's sixth grand final success from as many attempts.
Both sides scored two tries apiece in an epic encounter which was marred by several crucial refereeing decisions including a disallowed try to Storm centre Matt King by the video official late in the game which changed the complexion of the match.
Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett described the win as the sweetest of his six premierships after the Broncos were discarded as genuine premiership threats before the season had even kicked off.
"All the way through the year (we were written off)," Bennett said.
"The first game against the Cowboys, even before the season started.
"I don't think anybody believed after St George beat us (in the first week of the finals).
"There's a great belief amongst the players to keep the dream alive for us." For Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy the loss was a disappointing end to what had been a tremendous season in which the club lost only four other matches.
"We're disappointed how we handled a few things tonight but it ain't going to take away from what these guys have done," Bellamy said in reference to the Storm's minor premiership success.
"The experience tonight might make us better."
There could be more good news for the Broncos with at least eight players in line for selection in the Australian Tri-Nations squad which will be named in Sydney on Monday.
Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith could be in some doubt for the Test squad after injuring his ribs in Sunday night's loss to the Broncos.
