Victorian Police put AFL fans on notice
AFL fans are being warned to be on their best behaviour in the run-up to the Grand Final.
Victoria Police is targeting drunken behaviour and drink driving in a state-wide operation and have warned those under the influence of alcohol will be banned from the MCG come Saturday.
Nearby licensed premises would also be patrolled for drunken and unruly behaviour, Superintendent Mick Williams said.
"I would like to remind licensees of their obligations under the Liquor Control Act of serving alcohol to people already under the influence," Supt Williams said.
"Most people go to the Grand Final to enjoy a great day of Australian sport. Unfortunately, there is a small selfish minority that disrupt the day for others and we will not tolerate any unruly behaviour.
"Additional police have been assigned to assist with crowd control, including preventing people running onto the ground and scalpers will also be targeted."
Booze buses will also be prominent in the run-up to Saturday's finale between Sydney and West Coast and motorists doing the wrong thing will be caught, Supt Williams warned.
"We will be especially alert for the three main causes of road fatalities: fatigue, alcohol and speed.
"It is strongly recommended that people use public transport to get to and from the MCG."
Meanwhile, fans can expect fair weather after early morning showers on Saturday, Weatherzone said.
"The most significant weather impact we have seen in recent years was the 2003 AFL Grand Final when temperatures struggled to climb above 10 degrees and hail even fell at the MCG during the game," Weatherzone's Matt Pearce said.
"We are fairly certain there will not be a repeat this time around."
