Crows fan suspended for rest of season
An Adelaide Crows fan who threw a soft-drink bottle and hit a young child at the match at Adelaide's AAMI Stadium on Friday has had his membership suspended for the rest of the season.
The fan had reportedly thrown the bottle towards the umpires at the end of the game which the Crows lost to St Kilda by 32 points.
South Australian National Football League (SANFL) executive commissioner Leigh Whicker said the penalty was totally appropriate and within AFL regulations.
"This suspension sends a clear message to all supporters that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated," Whicker said in a statement.
"While incidents like these occur very rarely, we wish to reiterate there is no place for such behaviour at football matches."
Whicker said the member in question had written to the SANFL to apologise for his actions.
The man was also preparing a letter of apology to be forwarded to the child.
The incident came in the second week of a new policy at AAMI Stadium which allows fans to take alcohol to their seats.
However, Whicker said police had indicated that, while no formal breath test was carried out, they were confident the member had not been drinking alcohol at the time of the incident.
