Strikers draw with Perth
Reigning champions Perth Glory continued the Brisbane Strikers' home ground hoodoo against the West Australians, escaping with a nil-all draw in their National Soccer League clash at Perry Park.
Perth Glory, featuring two former Brisbane Strikers stars Wayne Srhoj and Jade North, have yet to lose to the Strikers in Brisbane, winning four and drawing three of their previous seven clashes.
Brisbane has a far better record in Perth, beating Glory twice in the past four years and had several chances to notch their first win of the season at their new Parry Park facility.
The match was played at a frantic pace but honours were even in the first half with both sides getting off to an enterprising start.
It wasn't until seven minutes from the break that supporters witnessed the first serious shot on goal when Strikers midfielder David Pilic unsuccessfully tried to chip Perth keeper Jason Petkovic.
After a dour previous passage Pilic's attempt snapped Josh Rose into action, the forward curling a shot that sailed over the crossbar from a difficult angle just two minutes later.
Perth was restricted to just one first half chance from striker Bobby Despotovski who raced onto a clever chip from midfielder Tom Pondeljak only to blast his attempt high and wide.
The Glory's attacking flair was subdued in the opening period with former Socceroo Damian Mori troubled by an eye problem in the opening half.
Mori came to the sideline twice inside the first 15 minutes and at one stage left his side a man down for three minutes as he went to the change rooms for treatment.
Both sides kept up the furious pace after the break but unlike the opening period, chances flowed freely.
