WA join Vic atop Claxton Shield division
Western Australia threw down a challenge to Victoria for a spot in the Claxton Shield final as the national baseball series reached the halfway mark on the weekend.
The Heat (4-2) claimed two wins in their three-match series against the reigning champion Aces to join Victoria (4-2) at the top of the Southern Division.
WA edged Victoria 6-5 and 8-5 in the opening two games in Melbourne - despite having fewer hits than the Aces in both - before the home side fought back to claim game three 4-3 on Saturday night.
The NSW Patriots, meanwhile, continued their unbeaten start to the competition with another three-game sweep of Australian Provincial (0-7).
The Patriots improved to 6-0 at the top of the Eastern Division, but will likely face their toughest test yet next weekend against the Queensland Rams (1-0) in Brisbane.
South Australia (1-5) host WA in the other round four fixture.
