NSL top six settled
The national soccer league top six is settled, but not the futures of the seven clubs which played their last matches this weekend in the soon-to-be defunct league.
Third-placed Adelaide United will host sixth-placed Brisbane in the first leg of their elimination final next Sunday, while fourth-placed Marconi is at home to fifth-placed South Melbourne after the regular season ended.
Premier Perth Glory and second-placed Parramatta Power start their two-legged major semi-final playoff in a fortnight.
South's 0-0 draw with Sydney Olympic at Jubilee Stadium ensured the Melbourne side couldn't leapfrog Marconi, with the Stallions failing in their bid to grab third place with a 2-2 draw at Perth on Saturday night.
Marconi let a two-goal lead slip in the last 10 minutes after dominating the match at Members' Equity Stadium.
The Stallions go into the elimination finals the form side outside the top two, with Perth coach Mich d'Avray saying he was glad his team didn't have to face Marconi next week.
"They are a team that in the finals opposition want to avoid," he said.
"They are the dark horses and I wouldn't like to be playing them at this stage of the season.
"I'm glad we're avoiding them."
Adelaide United and Brisbane also had weekend defeats - United losing 2-1 to Northern Spirit at Pittwater Park, while the Strikers lost 4-3 to wooden spooners Football Kingz in New Zealand.
