Riewoldt unable to get injury diagnosis

Injured St Kilda skipper Nick Riewoldt has been unable to get a definitive diagnosis on his collarbone because a plate inserted after he first injured the joint in round one is interfering with scans.

Riewoldt was back on the training track on Wednesday, eyeing an early return from his second similar injury of the season.

Expected to be sidelined for two months after 10 days ago re-injuring his right joint, which he broke in round one, Riewoldt was now hopeful of being back playing within a few weeks.

"It's certainly not a break similar or as bad as last time, if in fact there is one at all," he said.

"I do have a slight AC joint injury and it's just a matter of whether it's and/or.

"I haven't really been able to get any definitive answers off any of the doctors or surgeons I've seen, they've been erring on the side of caution but at this stage I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along."

Riewoldt was confident he would miss much less football than the six weeks the initial break took to heal.

"At this stage, the way it's feeling and the way it's progressing in the last week and a half, there is a chance that I might be able to come back in the next couple of weeks."

Despite his frustrating year, Riewoldt said there had been an up-side to spending so much time on the sidelines.

"Not playing's been very frustrating but at the same time it's really developed me as a person, it's given me a whole new perspective of what footy's about and trying to help my teammates and stuff like that," he said.
