Saints could lose Gehrig for two matches
St Kilda might have to wait another fortnight of crucial AFL matches before it can finally reassemble its powerful three-pronged attack.
While Aaron Hamill was cleared of a leg fracture and Nick Riewoldt could return from his broken collarbone, full-forward Fraser Gehrig was charged with striking.
Given Gehrig will miss two matches under the AFL's points system whether he contests the charge or not, it is likely the club will take the case to the tribunal.
The Saints were not commenting and have until Tuesday morning to let the AFL know their decision.
The match review panel booked Gehrig for striking Collingwood defender Jason Cloke in the last quarter of the win at the MCG.
Gehrig has two previous striking convictions and these increased his number of points under the new penalty system.
Without the increase, Gehrig would only be facing a one-match ban if he decided to plead guilty.
Gehrig, Riewoldt and Hamill have not played in the same side since round one, when Riewoldt suffered his injury.
Gehrig, last year's Coleman Medallist, kicked eight goals against the `Pies and again leads the AFL goalkicking on 23.
He has a four-goal break on a group of four players.
