Scud through to Wimbledon second round
Wildcard Mark Philippoussis is through to the second round of Wimbledon following a powerful straight sets win over Karol Beck.
The Victorian Philippoussis continued his revival with a 7-5 6-4 6-2 win over the Slovakian world No.45.
The former world No.8 has slumped to a ranking of 188 but overpowered Beck with 16 aces and brutal ground strokes.
He showed great spirit to come back from a break down to win the first set.
He broke Beck when the Slovakian served for the set and then saved two set points in the following game on his own serve.
His booming ground strokes gave him the vital break and then he served out the set with four aces.
The second set was more straightforward with one break, while two breaks in the third earned him a tough next match against fifth seed and Australian Open champion Marat Safin.
