Emotions run wild as Blues take Pura Cup
The emotions between the two camps couldn't have been any further apart as New South Wales streaked its way to an emotion-charged Pura Cup final victory over Queensland at the Gabba.
While the Blues celebrated, the Bulls were reduced to tears with skipper Jimmy Maher, and then fast bowler Andy Bichel, both breaking down.
The hosts came agonisingly close to recording a miraculous come-from-behind victory that in the end, was decided by a dropped catch from classy wicketkeeper Wade Seccombe.
Seccombe, who brought up 500 first class catches earlier in the innings, grassed a low diving chance from Nathan Bracken with the Blues still two runs shy of victory.
Bracken then got to witness one of the all-time great moments in domestic four-day history as Stuart MacGill flicked Queensland quick Joe Dawes to square-leg to take NSW past the total of 183 and secure its second title in three seasons.
The pair put on an unlikely 22-run final wicket stand after NSW, seemingly cruising at 4-158, lost 5-3 in the space of 18 balls as Dawes (3-30) and Bichel (3-48) rocketed Queensland back into calculation.
"At one stage we should have never lost it but then we shouldn't have won it and Bracky and Stuey at the end just showed what class players they are," Blues captain Brad Haddin said after the match.
The loss ensured Queensland's mantle as "finals chokers" gained further momentum with the Bulls having lost five successive finals in both forms of the game.
Four of them have come in front of their home crowd.
Queensland captain Jimmy Maher described the loss as "toughest moment in his career".
