Sydney the NBL comeback Kings again
Sydney continued on as the National Basketball League's comeback "kings" with a nail-biting 106-105 win over Brisbane.
The Kings, who came from 20 down to beat Hunter on Thursday, recovered from 11 down to snatch a one-point victory, playing most of the final quarter without imports Mark Sanford and Rolan Roberts.
Roberts (20 points) and Sanford (19 points) fouled out within 90 seconds of each other.
Sydney's chances looked slim without its imports but guard Luke Martin (13 points) and former Bullet Ben Knight (19 points) stepped up down the stretch to pull off an unlikely victory.
Brisbane unearthed another entertainer in replacement import Bryant "The Energiser" Matthews, who starred with game-high 28 points and nine rebounds in his debut for the Bullets.
Bryant, who was only cleared to play by immigration officials hours before tip-off, stepped into Kevin Freeman's boots with a high-energy display which won over Bullets fans shocked by Freeman's recent sacking.
The 22-year-old Virginia Tech graduate displayed amazing energy when coach Joey Wright subbed him into the game midway through the opening quarter.
He only played six minutes of the first quarter but led all scorers with nine points.
His first NBL point was a free throw but when he followed it up with a two-handed, ring-rocking dunk Brisbane fans, and the Kings, knew he had arrived.
He pulled off a spectacular tip-in play late in the third quarter off a Derek Rucker three-point attempt.
