Kings reign in NZ
A game-high 24 points by Boomers guard CJ Bruton has dragged a weary Sydney Kings to a 108-94 victory over the New Zealand Breakers at Auckland - their fourth straight NBL win.
Backing up from Wednesday night's win over Adelaide, the Kings were ambushed at Waitakere Stadium, trailing 20-7 in the first quarter and 55-51 at halftime.
But Bruton - bouncing back from his paltry five point effort in the Kings' round two 96-94 loss to New Zealand - took control to snuff out the Kiwis.
Reserve Kings guard Luke Martin was Bruton's partner in crime, grabbing 20 points including 14 in the second half that featured two vital three pointers.
After the match started with some ill-feeling, the Breakers kicked away to a healthy double-digit lead before the Kings cut the deficit to 30-22 at the first break.
The visitors got within a point, 48-47, with less than two minutes left in the second quarter but the Breakers held on to a 55-51 halftime lead.
The Kings took the lead 58-56 three minutes into the third quarter and never relinquished it despite Kings import Mark Sanford fouling out with eight minutes left.
For the Breakers, forward Ben Pepper had 22 and 11 rebounds and Shawn Redhage had 21 points and nine rebounds.
The Breakers - who look set to drop out of the top five with a 3-4 record - are away to Wollongong on Wednesday.
Sydney (7-2) travels to Cairns where it takes on the Taipans on Monday.
