Olyroos trainer fined over gesture
Olyroos fitness trainer Anthony Crea has been banned and fined for making an offensive gesture during the Australians' Olympic soccer match against Serbia and Montenegro.
Crea was fined 8,130 euro ($A13,900) and suspended for five matches, meaning he will watch the rest of the tournament from the stands.
Crea was sanctioned by football's world controlling body FIFA after he was found guilty of making an offensive gesture towards the Serbia and Montenegro substitutes' bench in Australia's 5-1 win over the Europeans.
FIFA said it viewed the incident as a "complete contradiction of the spirit and aim of fair play. Such conduct, especially on the part of an official, who should serve as an example, cannot be tolerated."
A spokesperson for the Olyroos said Crea was responding to a gesture from the Serb bench, and that the Australians would appeal.
