Fevola fined, Kouta to be tested
Carlton full-forward Brendan Fevola has been fined for giving a one-fingered gesture to fans after he was dragged during Saturday's AFL game against West Coast at Optus Oval.
A frustrated Fevola gave `the bird' to Blues fans who heckled him as he went off the ground during a poor first quarter, in which he dropped a mark and missed an easy goal.
But Fevola had the last laugh and finished with six goals in the Blues' 49-point win.
Carlton said the AFL had contacted the club and urged it to discuss the gesture with the colourful forward.
The Blues released a statement saying Fevola had been fined an undisclosed amount, but a club spokesman said it was the league, and not Carlton, which had imposed the fine.
"The AFL has confirmed that the penalty is appropriate in this matter and no further action will be taken," the statement said.
In better news for the Blues, captain Anthony Koutoufides is close to fully overcoming a damaged hamstring and is a chance to play his first game of year, against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
Koutoufides has not played since the pre-season, when he damaged the scar tissue on his hamstring.
But after re-injuring the tendon at training during his attempt at a comeback, the 31-year-old said this week could mark his return.
"I'm pretty keen on playing, when you've missed so long, you want to get out there and play," he said.
