Molik advances to semi-finals in Sweden
Third-seeded Australian Alicia Molik breezed past No.6 seed Denisa Chladkova of the Czech Republic 6-3 6-2 to reach the semifinals at the Nordic Light Open tennis tournament.
Two unseeded players, Sandra Kleinova of the Czech Republic and Tatiana Perebiynis of Ukraine, also reached the final four of the WTA Tour event with straight set victories.
It was the third consecutive straight set win for Australia's Molik in the tournament at Stockholm's Olympic Stadium.
Molik will face the winner between second seed Silvia Farina Elia of Italy and France's Severine Beltrame in Sunday's semifinal.
Kleinova, who has struggled this year and had not reached a quarterfinal before coming to Stockholm, overcame Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia 6-3 6-3.
It was only her eighth win in 21 matches this season.
Kleinova will play Perebiynis in the other semifinal.
Perebiynis advanced with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Maria Elena Camerin of Italy.
Sweden is hosting a WTA Tour event for the first time since the early 1990s when Bastad - site of one of the oldest men's claycourt events, the Swedish Open - played host to the women on clay.
Stockholm's Olympic Stadium, built for the 1912 Summer Games, is the world's oldest Olympic venue still in use.
