Gasnier fined and suspended indefinitely
St George Illawarra has heavily fined and suspended an apologetic Mark Gasnier after he was sacked from the NSW State of Origin team.
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust met with the 22-year-old Gasnier following his admission that he used a team-mate's mobile phone to make an obscene call to a 27-year-old Sydney woman early Wednesday morning.
Doust said Gasnier had been suspended indefinitely but he refused to reveal the extent of the fine.
Gasnier said he intended to personally apologise to the woman for causing any offence.
He admitted being under the influence of alcohol but said he must be held accountable for his actions.
Gasnier said he'd paid a huge price for the mistake because it'd been his dream to play Origin.
