Gasnier confident of Origin II fitness
NSW centre Mark Gasnier is confident of recovering from a hamstring injury in time to play in next week's State of Origin II at Suncorp Stadium.
Gasnier was selected for game two of the series and will be given until Friday to prove his fitness for the clash.
The St George Illawarra captain suffered a slight tear in his hamstring last Wednesday but said he was recovering well and had already started light jogging again.
"I've progressed a little bit," Gasnier said.
"I'm pretty confident and I'm more thankful than anything, thankful the selectors and (NSW coach) Craig (Bellamy) have given me that amount of time to prove my fitness."
Canberra centre Joel Monaghan joined the NSW camp in Sydney as cover for Gasnier.
Meanwhile, Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne said he was hopeful of being cleared of a dangerous throw charge which is threatening to rule him out of next Wednesday's match.
Hayne will fight the charge at Wednesday night's judiciary.
Bellamy said he was still considering several other players to fill the position if Hayne is ruled out.
Newcastle pair Kurt Gidley and Steve Simpson joined the NSW squad, both earning call ups after missing game one in Sydney.
NSW hold a 1-0 series lead and can secure their first series win in three years with a win in Brisbane.
